Sunny walk with history in the background

Sun, nice company and many interesting stories. This is how we started Saturday morning during another edition of „Expats in Tri-City with Live more. Pomerania” meetups. The city guide not only prepared the story of Old Town in a nutshell but she also took up the role of a true detective revealing the mysteries of streets of Gdańsk. And how about you? Do you know what secrets are hidden in the old tenements of Gdańsk?

From the beginning of this year  „Live more. Pomerania” is involved in the series of meetups known as „Expats in Tri-City with Live more. Pomerania.” Their purpose is to acquaint Pomerania residents coming from abroad or other regions of Poland with each other. So far there have been 4 meetups during which the participants had numerous opportunities to gain new skills during workshops, listen to interesting lectures (if you want to check out what we talked about on the meetings, the previous meetups’ agendas are available here and here)  or simply meet people who share their own experience. Every meetup took place in a different spot in Tricity: from a modern estate of Garnizon to a prestigious Rezydent Hotel in Sopot.

Walk with a tour guide

During a holiday season, we decided to prepare something new for the participants of our meetings – a walk about the Old Town which undoubtedly is one of the most beautiful areas of Gdańsk. We began our tour from the so-called Green Bridge where – thanks to our city guide – we had a chance to move to medieval times for a few minutes. While listening to fascinating stories about sailors, merchants and fishermen flooding Gdańsk in XII and XIII centuries, in the background we could see many canoeists sailing through Motława river as well as tourists walking by the port.

Passing by Motława we found ourselves near the old port where the biggest attraction for tourists and especially local history enthusiasts is historic Żuraw – the oldest of the medieval Europe port cranes which preserved to this day. Walking along Długa street we noticed colorful tenements rich in ornaments which impressed even the youngest participants of our tour. What’s more, our city guide didn’t forget to tell a few interesting facts about the most characteristic elements of the street such as Town Hall, Neptune fountain, Uphagen’s house or Golden Gate where our trip came to an end.

Upcoming meetings

This Saturday afternoon turned out to be a perfect finale of our meetups. It was very nice to see not only faces from previous meetings but also whole families. We hope it was a valuable time full of friendly atmosphere, interesting lectures and smile. You’ll find information about the upcoming meetings in the Articles section or on Facebook. See you all after holiday!
