Autumn in Pomerania? Go for a walk!

Autumn is a tricky season. It can be gloomy, rainy, cold and at the same time beautiful and full of sunshine that highlights the change colours of nature all around us. Overnight shades of red, orange, yellow, brown – colours that magically shimmer in an autumnal sun.

It is the perfect time to go for  long walks, but don’t forget the extra layers of clothing and a cup of hot chocolate or coffee. In Pomerania, you’ll find lots of beautiful places, where surrounded by nature or amazing architecture you’ll be able to enjoy both warm, sunny and foggy, cold weather.

The Pomeranian Central Park

There’s no need to introduce Park Oliwski to anyone. It’s our very own „Central Park”. No other place shows off the beauty of the Polishgolden autumn as much as Park Oliwski. You’ll find gardens in various styles there – English, French and even Japanese. Small bridges, gazeboes, lots of benches, a little waterfall, ponds with ducks and swans – all of that adds to the charm of the park.

Would you like to see a 180 years old date palm? Well, in Park Oliwski you can find it right in the palm house with a modern, innovative rotunda. You’re a fan of art? Go to Abbott’s Palace in the centre of the park. The place is home to a modern art exhibition e by the National Museum in Gdańsk. Perfect place to enjoy art when the weather outside isn’t pleasant.

Other side of Wrzeszcz

This well-known district of Gdańsk can be divided into two: Wrzeszcz Górny and Wrzeszcz Dolny. Górny is a place full of stores and shopping malls. A long, main street Grunwaldzka Avenue runs through the very middle of the area making it the center of the city, a part of downtown. But Wrzeszcz Dolny is a different story. Calmer, quieter, great for a long walk in the heart of the city. Going through the train station tunnel, the first thing you’ll see is small, but charming Park Kuźniczki. Good place to read a book, the park is kids and animal-friendly and sometimes you can catch musicians playing live classical music in a gazebo.

After you walked around the park, listened to some music or read a book, walk out of  the park and check out old Gdańsk Brewery as well as Wajdelota Street, which has recently been gentrified and now boasts of charming cafes, antique shops, and interesting stores. Wajdelota Streets is where you can drink delicious coffee, eat your vegan meal and maybe even find something retro for your place. And all that while having a stroll in Wrzeszcz Dolny.

Gdynia vibes

Just because the season changed and the hot summer sun was replaced with the autumnal cold wind doesn’t mean you have to give up on walks on the beach. Lovers of active recreation will be pleased by a walk in Orłowo. A beautiful pier, not as long as the one in Sopot, but also not as crowded, will let you calmly sit on a bench, relax for a while and feel the breeze.

Of course, we can’t forget the star of Orłowo – the 650 meters long cliff. The view from the top of it is simply mesmerizing, but the view of the cliff itself from the beach takes the breath away. No matter if you like to be in woods or like to feel the sand under your feet, Orłowo is perfect for walks. Do you like longer strolls? No problem, you can walk from Orłowo to a popular tourist spot in Pomerania – Sopot!

On the island

Not all beaches in Pomerania are full of people in need of soft sand and blue sea. There is a place where beaches are kilometers long, number of tourists and residents is small and the closest buildings are separated from the sea by the forest. What are we talking about here? Obviously about Sobieszewska Island – a paradise for enthusiasts of long, peaceful walks on a beach, no matter the season with various birds from local reserves flying around and with a chance of seeing adorable seals, relaxing near the water.

All that is possible thanks to Mewia Łacha and Ptasi Raj – reserves that take care of tens of bird species and watch over the seals. Sobieszewska Island is an ideal place for people who like activities and nature.
