Where to go when Autumn is being Autumn!
Autumn is here! The leaves are golden, the Pumpkin pies are baking, winter jackets are coming out of the storage, and we are getting ready for winter! Unpredictable rainy Autumn days and the flu season help us transition from the warm, glorious days of summer and actually make us look forward to crispy clear winter days headed our way!
The not so pleasant autumn days can sometimes trigger cabin fever, but that definitely is not the care in Tricity. Here are some of our favourite things to do with friends and family when the weather is being not so nice.
Community Centers
It’s 4:00 pm, it’s cold and pitch dark outside, who in their right mind would want to go for a walk in that? But, the kids are getting restless, what do you do? Head over to a community centre! Młodzieżowy Dom Kultury in Sopot and Gdynia, Gdański Archipelag Kultury in Gdańsk and many more in Tricity have a wide selection of activities, for both the little and the not so little ones. Modern dance or a ballet? Music band or musical instrument for the beginners’ lessons? Sketching workshops or pottery? What about yoga? Karate? All those activities and more are readily available. It’s a great opportunity to develop or discover new talent and meet new people.
Community centres offer not only regular classes at least once a week but also organize events perfect for the entire family. Festivals, flea markets, where kids can learn how to be true businessmen, exhibitions, theatrical performance and many more.
To library not just for books
A library is a wonderful place. a place where you can let your imagination take flight, discover new worlds and make new friends without having to leave your chair!
Though, are we really making full use of it? Libraries have evolved from being simple rows of books and comfortable chairs to modern activity centres where you can browse the internet, access digital books, play board games, language classes and what not!
Go check out your local library, depending on where you are, its best to search for the nearest one. Some of the most prominent libraries in the Tricity are (please add some names, metropolia etc).
You can check out the websites of these libraries or visit them to sign up for book clubs, and other events. What a perfect opportunity to get the kids (and yourself) away from screens and back to books and meeting people in real time!
Little scientists
Are your kids interested in science? Do they like to experiment, are curious about the world and how it functions? Maybe you have similar interests? If the answer is „yes” than EXPERYMENT Science Centre is a place to go for you and your family! his science centre in Gdynia is a place where fun meets science, where small and big discoverers will be transported to the wonderful world of physics, chemistry or biology.
At the Tree of Life exhibition, you can experience the feeling of an earthquake or experience how animals see. Exhibition on Invisible Forces is the opportunity to find out how the laws of physics allow lifting a car with one hand and the Goldberg Machine will allow you to build the longest working machine. It’s fantastic fun linked to education, so important for kids. There’s no place in Tricity like EXPERYMENT Science Centre.
Swimming not just in the sea
Who says you can only swim in the sea? Yes, swimming in the sea in the summer is definitely a plus, but if you enjoy swimming or just frolicking in water, why should you be hindered by the weather? Check out the Tricity Aquapark where you can swim, engage in watersports or just relax in a jacuzzi! If that was not tempting enough, while the kids are playing, the parents can treat themselves to a Spa experience! Wait! Don’t rush out just yet.. there’s more!
What about the theatre?
The Tricity is spoilt for choices when it comes to art and theatre. Head over to the Miniature Theatre for a fun-filled evening with the kids. Check out the Musical Theatre in Gdynia or the Shakespeare Theatre in Gdansk for musicals and local adaptations of various ballet shows like the Swan Lake or The Nutcracker and other plays.
A lot of these theatres also offer classes in performing arts that can be confidence boosters for the kids and let them explore their artistic side. So be in for a how or to get backstage and learn how it all works, theatres in Tricity will never fail to captivate
Autumn is unpredictable. It can be really beautiful, sunny and warm. Then you should take advantage of that and go for a trip,, strolls around the park or the Old Town, even go to the beach. But when it rains, the wind is strong and it’s cold, it’s good to have alternatives, to not be stuck at home all day. What type of attractions would you choose for your family?
